taking the granddaughter for her birthday at the excel
anyone been to one of these things before, aint really got a clue as to what to expect other than a load of comic fans dressed up. is it gonna cost a fortune in souveniers etc
any advice would be greatly appreciated

I went last year with my wife and young nephew.
Defo buy tickets with priority entry. Other than that, enjoy it. At first you just think weirdo's, but hats off to them. If that's your escape from a days drudgery, then good luck to you.
I came away with an awesome Hulk picture/painting..

My mates all went in May and loved it.

Yeah, very easy to get too. From WH get the Jubilee to Canning Town and then the DLR to Prince Regent. Then it's about a 5 min walk from there.
It's very well organised and marshalled along the whole route. Leave with plenty of time as it does get busy (there were about 100,000+ visitors across the whole weekend I read somewhere) and security will be tight. Avoid bringing a bag if you can and you'll be a lot quicker getting in...

shes 14, doubt she'll want her face painted, tatts more likely, we'll probably have to get the iron throne pic for her mum(massive game of thrones fan), her mum sorted tickets as gone for priority, dont know how much.
think priority have been on sale since december, wouldnt swear on that though. be going from west ham station is getting there relatively easy?

Exactly! Yes, bring plenty of money - food and drink at the Excel is pricey.
As for the rest of the show you can spend as much or as little as you like. Plenty of merchandise for sale and you could have your picture taken on the Iron Throne (Game of Thrones) for a tenner. Plenty of free stuff too (not sure how old your granddaughter is but there was free face painting / kids tattoos etc)
Where did u get tickets from? I can't see any for sale on the net yet....I'm tempted to go again!

Delboy, I took my 6 year old daughter to this in May (also at Excel) and didn't really know what to expect. We really enjoyed ourselves - loads to see and do, loads of gaming, people dressed up (most of the costumes are brilliant), film memorabilia, plenty of 'D' list celebrities (though u have to pay for autographs / photos - we didn't bother), gadgets, technology. Basically there is something for everyone.
I thought we'd be there for 2 hours max, and ended up being there for nearly 6...
